The estats of parlement etc., taking to thair serious consideratioun how cunyng some are to coyne and others bold to vent and a third sort weak and simple to beleive lies and calumnies aganst thair proceedings, even whill they are doeing thair best for the good of religioun, the honor and happines of the king, the preservatioun of the weelfare and peace of this kingdome and of all the bonds of unione betuix the kingdomes, and being informed that some false rumors are spred as if they had intended to seaze upon the persons of those that had beene active in the late unlaufull Engadgement, which hes beene bot invented and vented by malignant spirits to mak men out of such apprehensiounes to quyt ther houses and families and to draw together with other discontented persons to cast the peace of the countrey loose and to weaken the hands of the parlement in prosequutioun of the ends of the covenant and of thair duties for religioun, king and kingdomes, and considering the late act of parlement of the date the 7th of Februar instant contayning the band for secureing the peace of the kingdome, and the other act of the date the fyft day of Februar instant proclaiming Charles the second king of Great Britane, France and Ireland, they doe ordaine, enact and declare for the satisfactioun and security of all the liedges that thay have no such intention or resolutioun to prejudge the fredome of any man's persone who offers himselff or doeth, when required, subscryve and find souerty for the peace of the kingdome according to the forsaid band, and doeth testifie his allowance of the forsaid proclamatioun concerning the king's matie who now is. And to the effect it may be knowne who are willing to doe the same and who refuises, the estats of parlement ordaines that the new committeis of warre in the severall shyres and magistrats within burghs call before thame all such persons as were active in the late Engadgement and any other disaffected persons knowne to thame, to the parlement or committee of estats to subscryve and find suirtie according to the said band and to testifie ther allowance of the said proclamatioun, with certificatioun contained in the act anent the band; and that these on this syd of Tay give ane accompt of their exact diligence heirof to the parlement or committee of estats betuix and the 15th day of March, and these on the other syd of Tay betuix and the first day of Apryle nixtocome.
