Act marques of Argyll, earl [of] Eglintoune and Mr Robert Barkcley

The estates of parliament, haveing heard and considderit the supplicatioune of Archbald, marques of Argyll, Alexander, erle of Eglintoune and Mr Robert Barkcley, shewing that by ordor of the conventioune of estaites they had conduced with shippis for guarding of the westcoast, and for that end had borrowed 5,000 merks fra Johne Hamiltoune, apothecare, for releefe whairof they were assigned by the conventioune of estaites to alse much money out of the loane and taxt of the shirefdome of Air, whilk, as is informed to the supplicantis, is alreddie disposed of; and thairfore desyreing the parliament to take some suche effectuall course for the supplicantis releefe of the said principall soume and annualrentis therof as that they may be fred of the peyment of the samyne, as the supplicatioun beiris. The saidis estaites of parliament approves of the former assignement granted be the conventioune of estaites to the supplicantis for ther releefe and peyment of the soume abonewrittin out of the loane and taxt of the shirefdome of Air, and doe heirby of new againe grant assignement to thame for ther peyment and releefe of the said soume of 5,000 merkis and annualrentis therof out of the restis of the loane and taxt of the said shirefdome of Air yit unpeyit. And inrespect ther are some suspentiounes of the loane and taxt within the said shire of Air standing undiscust, thairfore the saidis estates gives warrand to the committee of estaites (or ony fyve of thame) to discuss, decyde and determine the said suspentiounes of the foirsaid loane and taxt within the shirefdome of Air, and for that effect to appoynt dyettis and give warrandis for citatioune of the perties interest in the discussing of the foirsaid suspentiounes; and, efter citatioune or hearing of the perties, to discusse and determine in the said suspentiounes, and accordinglie to ordaine the taxt and loane therby suspendit to be peyed to the supplicantis for ther releefe of the soume abonementionat, as the committee or quorum therof foirsaid in the discussing of the saidis suspentiounes sall find just. And incaice the supplicantis sall not be satisfied by the meanis afoirsaid, the saidis estates of parliament ordaines thame to be peyed and relived of the soume abonementionat and annualrentis therof out of any uther soumes and publict dewis dew and payable to the publict, whairanent thir presentis sall be ane sufficient warrand.
