Act Dame Helene Elphingstoun

The estates of parliament, haveing heard and considdered the supplicatioune of Dame Helene Elphingstoune, relict of Mr Henrie Rollok, minister at Edinburgh, desyreing that her tennentis of the landis whereof shee is lyverenter by right fra her first husband, umquhill Sir Williame Cokburne of Langtoune, may be exeamed from that divisioune in the shirefdome of Berwick falling under Sir William Cokburne now of Langtoune, ane of the collonellis in that schyre, and that her saidis tennentis may anser and fall within the erle of Hadingtoune, his divisioune, wha is also ane uther collonell of the said schyre; as also that the said Sir William Cokburne have no power of quartering in the supplicantis landis in any tyme cumeing, bot that the samyne be done be the commissar himselff inrespect of the debaittis and difference that hes bene and still are betuixt the supplicant and her sone sen the deceis of her umquhill first husband, as the supplicatioun mair fullie beiris. The saidis estates of parliament findis the desyre of the said supplicatioun reasonable, and thairfore they grant the samyne and doe heirby exeame the said Dame Helene Elphingstoune, supplicant, her tennentis of her conjunctfie and lyferent landis and wherunto she hes right frome her umquhill first husband in the shirefdome of Berwick, from the said Sir William Cokburne of Langtoune, his divisioune in that shire, and ordaines her saidis tennentis to answer to and fall within the erle of Hadingtoune, his divisioune of the foirsaid shyre, wha is ane uther collonell therof; and declaires that the said Sir William Cokburne of Langtoune sall have no power of quartering in the supplicantis landis in any tyme cumeing, bot that the samyne be done be the commissar himselff, whairanent thir presents sall be ane sufficient warrand.
