Act laird of Kilsyth

The estates of parliament, haveing hard and considdered the supplicatioune presented to thame be Sir James Levingstoune of Kilsyth, knight, shewing that Thomas Liddell, Johne Duncane, Johne Adame and Williame Adame, his brother, in Phinnochhauche, foure of his tennentis, are in ane justice court holden be the shireff of Striviling and his deputtis upone verie sklender probatioune, convict be ane excyse for steilling of some few sheepe whairupone the schirriffe will not faill to pronunce doome and execute death except it be prevened; and thairfore desyreing that the parliament wald be gratiouslie pleased to give ordour to the schirrife to adjudge these foure men to be delyvered to the supplicant to serve as souldiors in the armie for his landis and to take them, ache never to returne to the countrey againe under the paine of death, or els that the parliament wald be pleased to command the schirrife to continew the pronunceing of doome againes the saidis foure persones for some twentie dayes, that thair proces and probatioune may be advysed and thought upone, as the supplicatioune mair fullie beiris. The saidis estates of parliament suspendis and discharges all farder proceeding in the mater abonementionat againes the saidis Thomas Liddell, Johne Duncane, John Adame and Williame Adame and all pronunceing of any sentence and doome againes thame theranent whill the tenth day of Appryle nixtocome inclusive, and in the meane tyme the estates doe heirby dischairge the schirrife of the shirefdome of Striviling and his deputtis of all farder proceeding in the foirsaid mater and criminall proces abonementionat againes the foure persones abonenamed or ony of thame, and of all farder pronunceing of sentence or doome thairintill whill the said tenth day of Appryle nixtocome as said is, whairanent thir presentis sall be ane sufficient warrand.
