Act l[aird of] Ardkinglas

Anent the complaint given in be Williame, erle of Airth, Johne, erle of Pearth, James, erle of Tullibardine, James, lord Drummond [and] David, lord Cardross, for themselfis and in the behalfe of the remanent noblemen, heritors and uthers adherers to this suplicatioune within the presbitries of Dumblane and Auchterardor aganis the laird of Ardkinglas, beirand that he, with his regiment, upon the fourtene of Januar last without ordors entered the shyre of Pearth and quartered themselfis, being ane thousand and fyve hundreth men, not craveing advyise of the committie of the shyre, contrair to the act of parliament, and at his awne pleasur hes taxt the cuntrie in severall parishes, imposing upon ilk pleugh a dollor of money and ane firlot of meale per diem for everie tuentie men be the space of foure dayis, and by this the officers for the most pairt did interteane themselfis upon the poore people during the said space, and hes exacted the foresaid money and meale in severall places of the presbitries where they nevir come; and, eftir ressaveing ordors fra the generall major to remove to Stirling shyre the last of Januar, they remaned still whill the tuelt of Februar; and therfore craveing reparatioune aganis the laird of Ardkinglas, as the suplicatioune mair fullie beiris. Quherupon the laird of Ardkinglas, being cited to answer therto and the samen thereftir remitted to ane committie to heare and considder the foresaid complaint with the pairteis defenses theraganis and to report to the parliament, and that committie haveing this day produced ther report in writ with the complaint and defenses given in theraganis, quhilks wer publictlie red in audience of the parliament, the saidis erle of Tullibardine and Lord Cardross, compeirand personallie for themselfis and for the remanent complenars, adherers to the suplicatioune, and the said laird of Ardkinglas, compeirand also personallie, the estates of parliament, eftir they had hard and considered the foresaid complaint, with the defenses given in theraganis, with what was answered therto viva voce be the suplicantis compeirand as said is, and act of parliament quherupon the complaint is founded, they find the foresaid suplicatioune and complaint therinmentioned nowayis relivant to inferre punishment or reparatioune aganis the laird of Ardkinglas, and assoilzeis him therfra.
