Act Margaret McBeane

The estates of parliament, haveing hard and considered the report of that committie appointed for considdering the suplicatioune of Margaret McBeane, widow in Innernes, they find that the skaith and loiss sustenit be hir by the burneing of hir hous with sevin rood of well biggit land, with the haill insight and plenishing therintill, upon the north syid of the water of Ness towardis the bridge therof, quhilk was done by order of the governor of Innernes and other officiers there for impeding the enemies approach to the toune and for the saifetie therof, is sufficientlie instructed and provin to extend to the sowme of ten thousand merkis Scotis, and therfore and inrespect that the suplicantis hous, with the sevin rood of well biggit land abonespecefeit, with hir haill insight and plenishing being therintill, was totallie burnt at the comand of the governor and officieris of Innernes for the preservatioune of that toune fra the enemie, the saidis estates findis and declares the foresaid sowme of ten thousand merks Scotis to be ane publict debt payable be the estates of this kingdome to the said Margaret McBeane, and ordanis publict suretie to be given to hir for payment therof. And becaus sho hes no present meanis of subsistence, they therfore doe heirby seriouslie recommend the suplicant to the committie for moneyis and ordanis that committie to mak present payment to hir of the sowme of tua thousand merks of the ten thousand merks abonementioned out of the first and readiest publict moneyis that sall come in for the use of the publict, and that for hir present subsistence, haveing no uther meanes left hir quherupon to live, quheranent thir presentis salbe a sufficient warrand.

Act in favors of the erle of Callender

Forsamekle as the estates of parliament, haveing hard and considered the petition of James, erle of Callender, shewing that the committie of estates and parliament had nominat and made election of him to be lieutenant generall to thair armie in the first and second expeditions into England, and that he had caried himselfe therin with suche care, panefulnes, vigilance and fidelitie as was requisite for the discharge of so weightie a place and answerable to the trust reposed on him, and thairfore desyring the parliament's testimonie upon his cariage in the discharge of the foresaid place committed to his trust, with ane approbation of his service therintill; as also that the parliament wald appoint auditors for hearing and reviseing the accomptis of suche sowmes of money as he hes receaved from the publict, that it may be therby cleared eftir fitting of accomptis what sowmes of money ar yit restand awand to him for his service, as the foresaid petition beirs. They find bothe the foresaidis desires abonewrittin just and reasonable, and that the said James, erle of Callender hes caried himselfe with suche care, panefulnes, vigilancie and fidelitie as was requisite for the discharge of so weightie a place to be lieutenant generall aforesaid and answerable to the trust reposed on him therin, and findis and declares that he deserves thankis and approbation for the samen, quhilk the estates of parliament doe heirby most heartilie rander and give to him. And alse they ordane and appoint that committie formarlie appointed for the Lord Humbie's accomptis to ressave in, heir, considder and fitt the accomptis of the said erle of Callender of suche sowmes of money as he hes receaved from the publict, that it may be therby cleared eftir fitting of his saids accomptis what sowmes of money ar yit restand awand to him for his service. And thereftir ordanis the said committie to report the samen to the parliament, that they may therupon tak sick farder course theranent as they sall think fitt.
