The estates of parliament, taking to thair consideration the report underwrittin of the committie appointed to considder the conditions quherupon the shipping is to be provyded to the west coast of this kingdome, eftir reading of the samen report in audience of the parliament, quherof the tenor followis: The said committie doe find that according to the instructions given by the committie of estates to the commissionars at London the commissionars have endeavored to have Scottis shippis imployed in the service, but the English being unwilling to treat in that with anie publict ministers, oure commissionars appointed Lues Dick who is best acquainted with these affaires to conduce with them, quho accordinglie hes given in overtours and receaved answers fra the committie of the admiralitie, so that he is readie and willing to agrie with them (as his awne letter beiris), your lo[rdships] giving him a collaterall suretie assuring him that your lo[rdships] will sie him satisfiet in anie thing he sall undertak, whiche the committie thinkis verie reasonable. And the rather that by informations of letters from London they heir the shipping is punctuallie payed and thir shippis ar for our awne service, so we desire it may be speedilie done. The saidis estates of parliament, inrespect of the foresaid report and of ane letter direct and subscryved be the said Lues Dick to the marques of Argyle acquiescing to the undertaking of the foresaid service and condiscending that the expence therof will extend to four hundereth fourscore pund sterling a moneth by the intertinement of threttie men, quhilk letter was also red in audience of the parliament, they approve and allow of the foresaid report and doe heirby give collaterall suretie to the said Lues Dick and obleidge the estates of this kingdome for payment to him of his undertaking mentioned in the foresaid report conforme to his missive letter abonementioned, provyding the same undertaking doe not exceid the sowme of four hundereth and fourscore pund sterling per mensem and the intertinement of tuentie or threttie men more, as is exprest in the said Lues Dik, his letter foresaid. And the estates interponis the authoritie of parliament to the premises.
