The convention of estates, understanding that Alexander, lord Balcarres, colonell, out of his affection to the weale of kirk and kingdome, did by allowance and warrant of the committie of estates engadge himselfe and his freinds for leveying tuo troups of hors in the expedition to England, and that the said comittie did by their act of the date the 30 day of November last obleidge themselffes to releeve the said lord, and for that purpose gave command to the Lord Humbie, general commissar of the armie, and his deputtis to make payment to the said Lord Balcarres of the soume of ane hundreth pund Scottis for each trouper, a trumpeter, three corporallis and a smith in eache troup leveyed be the said lord, as the act beires; and the estates being willing to give all assureance to the said lord for his releeffe in this generous undertaking, they doe therefore, in ratification of the said act of the committie, bind themselfes to releeve the said lord of his ingadgement foresaid, and, for this effect, also ordaines and commands the said Lord Humbie and his deputtis to mak payment to the said Lord Balcarres of the said soume of ane hundreth punds for everie trouper, trumpeter, three corporallis and eache smith leveyed be him according to the first musteris and enrolment, and that out of the first and readiest publict moneyes being in his hand betuix and Witsonday nixt.

The convention of estates ordaines ane compryseing to be led against Johne Gordoun of Haddo for compryseing his lands and heritages at the instance of William Thomesone, in name of the publict, and Archibald Prymerose, clerk of counsell, for his interest, for the fyne of ten thousand punds imposed upon Sir Johne Gordoun of Haddo, whereof tuelfe hundreth punds is assigned be the saidis estates to the said Archibald Prymerose; and in regard messingers of armes may not saifelie repaire nather to the landis, heritages and house perteining to the said Sir Johne for searcheing for his moveable goodis, nor to the ground of his landis and duelling hous, nor to the mercat croces of Aberdeene and Bamffe within the quhilk his landis lyes, to denunce the same apprysed, nor to warne him and all other parteis haveing interesse to see the said appryseing deduced, nor yitt can they repaire to him to cite him personallie becaus of the insurrection in the north wherein the said Sir Johne is a speciall actor, therefore the convention of estates gives warrant heirby to the lordis of sessioun to direct lettres of appryseing at the instance of the saids Archibald Prymrose and William Thomesone for appryseing the landis and otheris above specifit, and to give warrant in the same to messingers of armes to denunce the saidis landis [and] to warne the partie and all otheris parteis haveing interesse at the mercat croce of Edinburgh and Stanehyve, becaus there is no saife accesse to the ground of his landis, his duelling house nor mercat croces of Aberdein and Bamffe; and incaise saife accesse be not the tyme of the said denunceation at Stanehyve, then to denunce at the mercat croce of Forfar; and incaise saife accesse be not there, at the mercat croce of Couper in Fyffe. Whilk citation and denunciation and appryseing following therupon the saidis estates declaires to be als valide and sufficient as if the same were done personallie at his duelling places and upon the ground of his landis according to the accustomed order, wherewith, and with the not searcheing of his moveable goodis upon the ground of his landis and at his duelling hous, the saidis estates, in respect of the troubles and in the caise foresaid, dispenses be thir presents, and that the saidis lordis of session grant all other dispensations for leading of the said appryseing within the tolbuith of Edinburgh anent the tyme and place.
