Forsamekle as the estates of this kingdome have imployed Captaine James Jacksone, Englisheman, and his ship for guarding of the coastis of this kingdome and otheris pairtis where ather the enemies thereof within may receave supplee frome these of there conspiracie or hinder supplee to be convoyed to the armies in England and Ireland or molest his maties subjectis by sea, as he sall receave orderis frome the saidis estates or their committees; for which purpose he hes also furnished his ship with artellerie, men of warre and ammunition and other necessarie provision, and contract past betuix him and the saidis estates heiranent. And whereas it is liklie that in this service he may rancounter with Dunkirk or Yrish frigottis infesting the coast or anie other shipes belonging to the said enemie of the tuo covenanted kingdomes of Scotland and England, who are verie industrous ather to supplee the enemies of the saidis kingdoms or to intercept supplee or provision goeing to the tuo armies, as alsua to sease upon merchantis and otheris his maties good subjectis travelling by sea, therefore the estates of this kingdome gives full power and commission to the said Captane Jacksone not onelie to defend himselfe, ship and goodis frome anie of the frigottis and otheris foresaidis, butt also to follow and pursue thame with all maner of hostilitie and to apprehend, sink or destroy thame and use thame as profest enemies to the saidis estates, and suche of them or their shippes as they sall apprehend, to mak the same furthcomeing to be disposed of as the estates sall think fitting, and to doe everie other thing heirin as he sall be commanded be the estates of this kingdome or their committees. This commission to endure for the space of fyve moneth.

Forsamekle as Captane James Jacksone, captane of the ship called the Hopefull Adventure, hes undertane and be thir presents undertakis and obleidges himselfe in presence of the estates of this kingdome now conveened to furnishe his ship with tuentie peece of good ordinance, threescore men of warre with victuall, ammunition and all otheris necessaris for the space of fyve monethes, to be imployed for the service of the kingdome of Scotland according to the orderis to be given to him frome tyme to tyme be the estates thereof and their committees; therefore the estates of this kingdome by these presents also oblidge thame to cause be payed to the said Captane Jacksone tua hundreth pund sterline monethlie for his service in the imployment of his said ship, furnished as said is, and tua monethes pay advanced to him, and that the saidis estates sall caus provide reid cottoun for syde cloathes to his ship, togither also with ane shallop for the use of the said ship. Lykas the said captane doeth heirby oblidge himselfe to victuall and provide his ship at one tyme for three monethes, and the saidis estats declaires that his entrie upon the service of the publict sall be and begin upon the 16 of Apryle instant.

The convention of estates, considering how necessar it is that Captane Jacksones ship, which is imployed for guarding of the coast, be furnished with ordinance, ordaines and commands Andro Balfoure in [...] to sell to the said captane the foure peece of ordinance for the use of the said ship at the pryce for quhilk he bought the same frome James Barnes.

The convention of estates understanding that Williame Keir in Leith hes tua peece of ordinance called saikeris whereof he hes no use for the present and whilk will be verie usefull for Captane Jackson's ship in the service wherein he is now imployed for the publict, therefore ordaines the said Williame Keir to len the same to the said captane for the use foresaid, he giveing band to restore the same to the said Williame or the pryce thereof betuix and the space of fyve monethes.

The convention of estates haveing heard the petition of Andro Drumound, prissoner in the tolbuith of Edinburgh, proporting that upon occasion of his being in companie with Lues Marschaell when he wes tane for the slaughter of the young laird of Clackmannan, he wes brought heere with him and putt in waird, where he hes remained this moneth or thereby albeit he be innocent of art, part or knowledge of this slaughter, being fourtie myles frome the place where and whence the same wes committed, as the persewers knew; who, haveing upon the secund of Aprile insisted aganis the said Lues, who wes convict and suffered, had nothing to ly to his charge, and therefore desyreing to be putt to libertie. And Gilbert Bruce, younger, of Clackmannan, for himselfe and remanent pursuers, being charged to appeare and heir his desyre granted or els show a cause why, and not compeirand, the estates, in regard thereof, ordaines the provest and baillies of Edinburgh to putt the said Andro to libertie in so farre as he is warded for the cause above written, for the quhilk thir presents sall be their warrand.

The convention of estates ordaines and comands Williame Thomsone to delyver to Captane Jacksone tua hundreth pund Scottis for provyding of reid cottoun and greene linnen to be syde cloathes to his ship quhilk is imployed for the publictis service, for the quhilk thir presents sall be his warrand.

The convention of estates ordaines and commands the baillies of Leith to use their best endeavoris to procure a shallop quhilk the estates hes conditioned to furnishe to Captane Jacksone for the use of his ship imployed in the service of the publict, and that the saidis baillies make pryce for the same and report to the convention, that orderis may be given for payment thereof.
