The conventioun of estaits presentlie conveined, considdering the danger imminent to the trew Protestant religioun, his maties persoune and peace of this kingdomes be the multitude of papists in airmes in Ingland and the occasiounes thairby geven not only to publict enemies abroad, bot also to disaffected persounes within this kingdome to labour so far as in them lyes to interrupt this happie peace injoyed within the same, and finding it necessar that all meanes be speidily uset for preventing the practisies of such for preserveing of the peace and keiping of the subjects in a duetifull obedience to the lawes and publict judicatories and in a Christian wnitie amongst themselffis, have thairfoir thocht fitt that this kingdome be put into a postoure of defence, and ther be presently levied and interteined on the publict charge thre troupes of horse and 600 foote souldieres, to be comandit be suche officeres as the estaits shall think fitting; and who are to resave thair ordours and obay the directiones to be geven them from the estaits or any haveing warrant from them.
