[Overtures from the committee for the disorders in the borders]

Anent the peace of the bordours

It is the opinion of ws who wer appoynted to meett and consider of some way for the regulating of the disorders within the midleshires, wee conceave that it is most necessary that their be ane conjunct commission betuix the two kingdomes given and ratifyed be both parliaments.

And for the present untill this commission be perfyted, it is our opinions that some persons of quality that hath power in the borders be authorized with a commission from the parliament of Scotland to take, apprehend and imprison such malefactors as ar disturbers of the peace within this kingdome of Scotland, especially fugitives who formerly fled the kingdome and upon the disturbance betuix the two kingdomes ar returned. And this commission to endure whill the ether be perfyted, and thes men undermentioned we think the fittest for the present.

And for the bettir furthering of this service Sir Richard Grahame, who lyes neerest upon the borders adjoyning and hath a part of his estate in the kingdome of Scotland and is naturalized a Scotsman, wee conceave it most convenient that he be joyned in this commission.
