Wnto the kingis most excellent majestie and the honorable estates of parliament, the humble supplicatioun of Sir Patrik Hepburne of Wauchtoun, Sir William Dowglas of Caveris, William Drummond of Rickartoun, Johne Smythe, baillie of Edinburgh, Maistir Alexander Wedderburne, toun clerk of Dundie and Hew Kennedy, burges of Air, humblie schewing that quhair we, the saidis Sir Patrik Hepburne, Sir William Dowglas, Johne Smyth and Maistir Alexander Wedderburne wer this last yeir bygane entrusted with ane commissioun and employed in the treatie of peace begun at Rippon and still did continow under the same burding and charge till the treatie was transferrit to Londoun, at which tyme we your saidis haill sex petitioneris wer authorized with ane commissioun to proceid in the said negotiatioun, which we undertooke and have undergone till the happie conclusioun of the said treatie. Efter the which, haveing now returned to this honorabill meeting of parliament the whole proceidingis and articles of the treatie, we, and everie ane of ws, do in all humilitie lay doun that commissioun laid upon ws at the seite of his majestie and this heich court of parliament and doe most willinglie and humblie submitt our selffis, our whole actiounes and deportment in that great and wechtie charge to your examinatioun and consideratioun, quhairin we offer ourselffis reddie to give ane compt and mak answer to the effect that gif we or any of ws have bene remiss or negligent in the discharge of our dewties and obedience unto the commandementis and instructiounes gevin to ws, or gif we have for feare of any hazard or upon hope of any benefeit, preferment or any thing ellis quhatsumever done any thing contrair to your instructiounes or prejudiciall to the publick, we or any of ws who hes beine defective may undergoe that censure which the wrongeris of the cuntrie and abuseris of such great trast deserves. And gif your majestie and this honorabill hous sall find that we have acquat our selffis faithfullie of that charge and trust was laid upon ws then do we all and everie ane of ws most humblie crave (seing our negotiatioun is now at ane end, and that by Godis assistance and blessing the treatie of peace is closed) that as our weake endeavores hes beine trewlie and sincerelie contribute to the service of this kirk and kingdome, so we may be exonered and discharged of that wechtie burding we have so long lyne under, and that our proceidingis thairin may be approvin.
