Protestatione toune of Edinburghe againes the wrightes of the Cannogats ratificatioune

In the parliamente haldine at Edinburghe, the sevinteine day of November, jM vjC fourtie ane yeeres, the quhilke day James Cochrane, merchand burges of Edinburghe and commissioner to this present parliament for the said burgh, in name and behalfe of the proveist, baillies, counsell and commontie of the said burghe of Edinburghe, protestit in oppine and plaine parliament in audience of the kingis majestie and estates of parliament that the ratificatione of the dait heerof granted be the kingis majestie and estates of this present parliament in favoures of the wrightes and couperes in the Cannogait and ther pendicles, mentionat in ther seill of cause and chartour specified in the foirsaid ratificatione, should be allwayes without prejudice to the saidis proveist, baillies, counsell and commontie of the burghe of Edinburghe and ther successoures off ther rightes, infeftments, liberties and priviledges of the regalitie of the Cannogait, as haveing onlie right to the samene regalitie, quhilke rightis now ratified in ther favoures in this present parliament, and alse but prejudice to the said burghe of Edinburghe as being ane free burghe royall and of there haill liberties, priviledges and freedome granted and perteyneing therto. And lykewayes that the foirsaid ratificatione granted in favoures of the wrightes and couperes in the Cannogait should be allwayes without prejudice of the actes of parliament made in favoures of the burghes royall and made aganes the exerceise of traddes and craftes in the suburbes adjacent to the saidis burghes royall. And sicklyke protestit that the seale of cause and chartour specified in the said ratificatione be allwayes but prejudice to the said toune of Edinburghe of ther rightes, liberties and priviledges foirsaidis, and of the actes of parliament made in favoures of the free burghes royall of this kingdome, and in respect heerof the said James Cochrane, commissionere foirsaid, in name of the said burghe of Edinburghe, protestit aganes the foirsaid ratificatione granted in favoures of the wrightes and couperes in the Cannogait, and heerupoun, in name and behalfe of the proveist, baillies, counsell and commontie of the burghe of Edinburghe, in audience of his majestie and estates of parliament, askit act and instrumentes.
