Act of approbatione and exoneration in favoures of Maister Archbald Johnstoun

The quhilke day the kingis majestie and estates of parliament, haveing takine to ther consideratione the desyre and petitione givine in to them be Maister Archbald Johnestoun, procurator for the kirke, makeand mentione of that imployment and trust put upoun him be the estates and parliament, wherby he was imployed be them not onlie in the effaires conserneing the publict, both of church and state, heir within the cuntrie, bot also in the treattie betuixt the kingis majestie and his subjectes of Scotland and betuixt the kingdomes of Scotland and England, first begune at Rippone and thereftir translated to Londone, and now happilie concludit and ratified by the parliamentes of both kingdomes, and therfore desyreing the kingis majestie and parliament to try and examene his cariage, fidelitie and diligence in the foirsaid imployment and trust committit to him, and accordinglie either to grant him exonoratione and approbatione of said chairge and cariage therintill, or utherwayes to sensure him for what shall be fund amiss in his behaviour in the foirsaid imployment, as they eftir examinatione and tryell shall find just, as the said petitione in itselfe more fullie proportes. And his majestie and estates of parliament, finding the foirsaid desyre most reasoneable, and haveing examinat the said Maister Archbald Johnestoune, his haill actiones and cariage in the foirsaid imployment and trust put upon him, and compaired the same with his commissione and instructions, togidder with the report of the committie of estates anent the compt and examinatione formerlie tane be theme of him at his returne frome Londoune, with the testimony of the kingis majestie and remanent commissioneris who ware in the commissione with him, doe find and declair that the said Maister Archbald Johnestoune heath faithfullie, diligentlie and cairfully beheaved himselfe in the foirsaid chairge, imployts and trust put upoun him in all the passages therof, as he justlie deserves ther trewe testimony of his approvine fidelitie and diligence; and therfor his majestie and estates of parliament doe not only liberat and exoner him of all questione or challenge that cane be laid to him for his cariage in the forsaid chairge and imployment, bot also, for the full demonstratione of ther acknowledgment of his fidelitie and diligence foirsaid, doe give him this weell deserved testimony and approbatione: that he heath in all fidelitie, caire and diligence behaved himselfe in the foirsaid imployment, charge and trust as ane loyall subject to the king and true patriot to his cuntrie.

The quhilk day the kingis majestie and estates of parliament, haveing takine to ther consideratione the desyre and petitione givine in to them be Johne Smyth of Grottell, burges of Edinburgh, makeand mentioune of the imployment and trust put upoun him be the estates and parliament, wherby he was imployit be them as ane of the three commissioneris for the burrowes with the rest of the commissionares in the treattie betuixt the kingis majestie and his subjectes of Scotland, and betuixt the kingdomes of England and Scotland first begune at Rippone and thaireftir transported to Londone, and now happilie concludit and ratified by the parliamentes of both kingdomes, and therfor desyreing the kingis majestie and parliament to try and examene his cariage, fidelitie and diligence in the foirsaid imployment and trust committit to him, and accordinglie either to grant him exonoratione and approbatione of his saids chairge and cariage therintill, or wtherwayes to censure him for what shall be fund amisse in his behaviour in the foirsaid imployment, as they eftir tryell and examinatione shall find just. And his majestie and estates of parliament findis the foirsaid desyre most reassonable, and haveing considerit the report of the committie appoynted be them for examinatione of the said Johne Smyth, his whole actiones and cariage in the foirsaid trust and imployment put upon him, and compaired the same with the commissione and instructiones granted to him and the remanent commissioneris, [togidder with the testimonie of the kingis majestie and remanent commissioneris] who ware in the commissione and lyke trust with the said Sir Johne Smyth, doe find and declaire that the said Johne Smyth heath so faithfullie, diligentlie and cairfullie behaved himselfe in the foirsaid chairge, imployment and trust put upoun him in all the passages thairof as he justlie deserves ther true testimony of his approvine fidelitie and diligence; and therfor his majestie and estates of parliament doe not only liberat and exoner him of all questione or challenge that cane be laid to him for his cariage in the foirsaid chairge and imployt, bot also, for the full demonstratione of ther acknowledgment of his fidelitie and diligence foirsaid, doe give him this weell deserveing testimony and approbatione: that he heath in all fidelitie, cair and diligence behaved himselfe in the foirsaid imployment, chairge and trust as ane loyall subject to the king and trewe patriot to his cuntrie.

The quhilk day the kingis majestie and estates of parliament, haveing takine to there consideratione the petition givine in to them be Maister Alexander Hendersone, minister of Edinburghe, makeand mentione that he, being appoynted be the presbetrie of Edinburgh to attend the generall in the late expeditione, he was by the inciting of the ministeris at Newcastle and by the commissioneris of estates there joyned with the commissioneris of the treattie, wherin diverse materes of the churche goverment ware to be treated; and now the treatty being by the mercy of God brought to ane desyred conclusione and the commissioneres approvine and exonered in parliament, therefore desyreing if he heath bene faithfull in whatsoever heath bene intrusted to him by the commissioneris whom he did attend, that he also may be exonered and publictlie approvine, quhilke shall be ane encouragment to him for eftirward to contribut his best endevores for the publict, and to pray that peace and all other blissingis may be multiplied upoun the king and kingdome, as the supplicatione in the selfe proportes. And his majestie and estates of parliament, finding the foirsaid desyre just and most reassonable and haveing examinat the said Maister Alexander, his whole actiones and cariage in the forsaid imployment and trust put upoun him, and compaired the same with the commissiones and instructiones, and haveing considerit the samene with the testimony of the king's majestie and of the remanent commisioneris who war in the commissione and lyke trust with the said Maister Alexander Hendersone, doe wnanimouslie find and declaire that the said Maister Alexander Hendersone heath so wyslie, faithfullie, diligentlie and cairfullie behaved himselfe in the foirsaid chairge and trust put upoun him in all the passages thairof as he justlie deserves there trewe testimony of his approvine fidelity, diligence and wyse cariage herintill; and therfor his majestie and estates of parliament doe not onlie liberat and exoner him of all questione or challenge that cane be laid to him for his cariage in the forsaid chairge and imployment, bot also, for the full demonstrasione of ther certane knowledge of his faithfull and wyse cariage, doe unanimouslie give him this trew deserved testimony and approbatione: that he heath in all fidelity, wisdome and diligence behaved himselfe in the foirsaid imploymente, chairge and trust put upon him as ane loyall subject to the king and trewe patriot to his cuntrie.

Act of exonoratione and approbatione in favoures of Adame Blair

The quhiilk day the kingis majestie and estates of parliament, haveing takine to there consideratione the petitione givine in to them be Adame Blair, makeand mentione that he was imployit as clerke to the lordis and wtheres commissioneres for the treattie, and that according to his power he had exercit that office, and that the treattie was now brought to ane happie conclusione, therfor entreating the kingis majestie and parliament to take tryell of his cariage in the said imployment and ather to censure him if he should have bene fund to have omittit any thing intrusted to his chairge or committed any thing to the prejudice of the king and kingdome, or wtherwayes to approve his proceedinges as they shall be fund to deserve, as the petitione in it selfe proportes. His majestie and estats of parliament findis the desyre foirsaid of the said petitione just and reassonable, and haveing examinat and considerit the supplicantes cariage in the foirsaid trust and imployment, with the testimony of the saidis lordis and otheres commissioneres to whom he was imployit as clerke in the foirsaid commissione, doe find and declair that the said Adame Blaire heath faithfully and cairfullie exerced the foirsaid office and chairge put upon him according to his power dureing the haill tyme therof and conforme to the trust committit to him therintill; and thairfor, his majestie and estates of parliament doe not onlie liberat and exoner him of all questione or challenge that can be laid to him for his cariage in the foirsaid imployment, bot also doe give him this testimony that he heath behaved himselfe honestlie and cairfullie in the said imployment as ane loyall subject to the king and trewe patriot to his cuntrie.

The quhilk day the kingis majestie and estates of parliament, haveing takine to there consideratione the petitione of Maister Alexander Weddirburne, toune clerke of Dundie, makeand mentione of the trust put wpon him and the other commissioneris who war intrusted with ane commissione and imployit by the committie of parliament in anno 1640 yeires in the treattie of peace betuixt the kingis majestie and his subjectes of Scotland, and betuixt the kingdomes of Scotland and England, which was begune at Rippone and thereftir translated at Londone, conforme to the commissione and instructiones respective granted to the supplicant and the wther commissioneris thairincontenit thairanent, quhairby they ware authoreized with the said commissione to proceed in the foirsaid negociatione which they wndertooke and have wndergone till the happie conclusione of the said treattie; after the which, haveing now returned to this honorable meiting of parliament the haill proccedingis and articles of the treaty, the petitioner does in all humility lay doune that commission laid upoun him at the feet of his majestie and this heighe court of parliament, and does most willinglie and humbly submit himselfe, his haill actiones and deportment in that great and weightie chairge to there examinatione and consideratione, wherine he offeris himselfe reddie to give ane accompt to the effect that if he have bene remisse or negligent in the dischairge of his duetie and obedience to the commandementes and instructiones givine to him, or if he hes for feare of any hazard or hope of any benefit, preferment or any thing elles whatsoevir, done any thing contraire to the saidis instructiones or prejudiciall to the publict, he being defective thairintill may wndergoe that censure which the wrongeris of the cuntrie and abuseres of such great trust deserves; and if it shall be fund that he hes acquyt himselfe faithfullie of that chairge and trust put wpoun him, than the petitioner does humblie crave that as his weake endevores has bene treulie and sincerlie contributed to the service of this kirke and kingdome, so he may bee exonered and dischairged of that weightie burdene he hes so long tyme now wnderlyne, and that his proceedinges therin may be approvine, seing the negociatione of the treattie is now at ane end and by Godis assistance and blissing the same is closed, as the said supplicatione at mair lenth beires. His majestie and the estates, finding the foirsaid petitione and desyre most equitable, and haveing considerit the report of the committie appoynted for examinatione of the said Maister Alexander Weddirburne, his cariage in the said trust put upon him, and compaired the same with the commissione and instructions foirsaids granted to him and the other commissioneris, togidder with the testimony of the kingis majestie and the remanent commissioneris who war in the lyke commissione and trust with the said Maister Alexander Weddirburne, doe find and declair that the said Maister Alexander Weddirburne heath so walked and behaved himselfe in the foirsaid imployment as he deserves ther testimonie of his approvine fidelitie and diligence; and therfor his majestie and estates of parliament doe not onlie liberat and exoner him of all questione or challenge that cane be laid to him for his cariage in the foirsaid chairge and imployment, bot also doe give him this testimony and approbatione: that he heath behaved himselfe in the foirsaid imployment, chairge and trust as ane loyall subject to the king and trewe patriot to his cuntrie.
