Act anent the oath to be givine by everie member of parliamente

Forsomuche as the honnour, greatnes and happines of the kingis royall majestie and the weellfaire of the subjectis depend one the puritie of religione as it is now established in this kingdome, the lawes, liberties and peace therof which ought to be sought eftir by all good Christianes, loyall subjectis and trewe patriotis, and to be furthered and menteaned by them against all such as by any meanes endevore to shake or subvert the same, therfor, wee wndersubscryveris and everie one of ws doe in the presence of almightie God promeise and voue that in this present parliament wee shall faithfullie and frielie speike, ansuer and express ourselves wpoun all and every thing which is or shall be proponit so farr as wee thinke in our conscience may conduce to the glorie of God, the good and peace of this church and kingdome and imploy our best endevores to promove the same and shall in nowayes advyse, voyce nor consent to any thing which to our best knowledge we thinke not most expedient and conduceable therto; as also that wee shall menteane and defend with our lyfe, pouer and estate his majesties royall persone, honour and estate, as is exprest in our Nationall Covenant, and lykewayes the power and priviledges of parliament and the laufull rightes and liberties of the subjectis; and by all good meanes and wayes oppose and endevor to bring to exact tryell all such as aither by force, practeise, counsell, plotes, conspiracies or wtherwayes have done or shall doe ony thing in prejudice of the puritie of religione, the laues, liberties and peace of the kingdome. And further, that we shall in all honorable and just wayes endevour to preserve unioun and peace betuixt the thrie kingdomes Scotland, Ingland and Ireland. And neither for hope, feir nor other respect shall relinquish this vowe and promeis.

Read in audience of the kingis majestie and the estates of parliament, who approve the same and appoynt the said oath to be takine by all memberis of this parliament and in all parliamentis heireftir, befor they proceed to ony act or determinatione.

Act in favoures of Robert, lord Burghlie, anent his exoneratione of the chairge of precedencie in parliamente

The quhilke day Robert, lord Burghlie, president, chosine be the estates of parliament at there meiting the 15 day of Julii lastbypast to be president to that meiting of estates in parliament, humblie desyreth his majestie and estates of parliament to exoner him of that chairge of president for many good reassones; as also to take consideratione of his cariage in the dischairge of that place. Quhilkis desyre being considerit be his majestie and estates of parliament, his majestie and estates foirsaids fand the foirsaid desyre reasonable, and therfor hes exonrit, liberat and heirby exoneris and liberatis the said Robert, lord Burghlie of the foirsaid chairge of president. Lykeas, his majestie and estates of parliament findis and declaires that the said Robert, lord Burghlie hes caried himselfe in the dischairge of his place of president wyslie and prudentlie ansuerable to the said place, and therfor his majestie and estates foirsaidis ratifies and approves his cariage and proceidingis therintill.

Act anente the election of Johne, lord Ballmerino, to be president of this session of parliamente

The quhilke day the kingis majestie did nominat Johne, lord Ballmerino to supplie that place of president in this parliament for the present wntill farder consideratione be had how the praeses of parliament should be chosine intymecomeing, which his majestie is willing should be determined befor his goeing out of the kingdome; to the which nominatione be the kingis majestie of the said Johne, lord Ballmerino to be president of parliament the saidis estates of parliament did willinglie aggrie.

Act and declaratione be the king in favoures of the memberes of parliamente

The quhilke day the kingis majestie was graciouslie pleased to declair, and for his hienes and his successouris declaires, that heireftir he will not commit any member of the house of parliament without ther advyse for any misdemanor in tyme of parliament; and therfore his majestie and estates of parliament statutes and ordeanes that no member of the house of parliament shall be commited for ony misdemanor in tyme of parliament without the advyse of the estates of parliament intymecomeing.
