[Minutes of the committee of estates regarding the continuation of parliament]

The committie hes nominat the Erle of Eglingtoun, Lord Lindsay, the Laird of Gadgirth, Maistir James Reid, Richard Maxwell and Johne Semple to meitt this eftirnoone at 2 houris, with Sir Thomas Nicolssone and the four advocatis for the estates and Johne Dicksone to be with them.

Thei ar to resolve and consall anent the proces aganis these cited to the parliament quhat is to be done thairanent aganis the morne. 2. Anent the forme of the prorogation of the parliament, and to revise the proceding prorogatiounes. 3. Anent the act maid at New Castell for restraining of these fled of the countrie, quhidder thai salbe permitted to com back quhill a full cloise of the treittie. Thir persones ar ordanit to report thair judgementis in thir particulare efternoone.

12 Apryle 1641, in the efternone

Eglingtoun, Lindesay, Gatgirth, Sir Thomas Nicolsone, Richard Maxwell, Johne Semple, Maistir James Reid, Maistir James Baird, Maistir Alexander Peirsone and Maistir Thomas Nicolsoune, and Maistir Rodger Mowatt present ut supra.

The persons abovenemit agreit all that they thoucht it expedient that the parliament be continewit to the 25 of May nixt in that sam forme and maner as the sam was continewit to the xiii of Aprile instant, with the same protestatioun to be subjoyned in this act of continwatioun as is contenit in the former act, and desyiris that the estaittis may nominat these quha sall mak the protestatioun for ilk estaitt, and this they desyre to be done in respect the copy of the kingis lettre now producit beiris that same word 'our commissionar' quhilk was in the former lettre and quhilk word 'our commissionar' occasioned the protestatioun in the last continewatioun.

Item, they think that it is not neidfull particularlie that everie persone citatt be callit, bot that the same be continewit in generall as in the former acte of continewatioun.

Item, anent the act maid or to be maid for licensing or restraining these that hes left this cuntrie and now desyre to returne, it is remittit to the considderatioun of the committie gif it sould not be expedient that, gif the restraint be inactit, that thair be ane exceptioun of suche as ar citatt or sal be citat to compeir befoir the parliament, that incaice they crave ane pass, that the pass be grantit to thame in expres termes, that they compeir befoir the committie of estaitte at Edinburgh within sick ane space as the grantaris of their pass sall prescryve be thair pass to ressave fra the committie of estaitte at Edinburgh sick ordour as the committie sal think fitteing to gif.
