Commissioun anent the criminall judicatorie

In the parliament haldin at Edinburgh, the tuentie aucht day of Junii, jM vjC threttie thrie yeirs, anent the supplicatioun and petitioun givin in and presentit to his majestie and estates of parliament be the justice deputtes and justice clerk of the kingdome of Scotland, makand mentioun that quhair as King James, of blissed memorie, being trewlie informit of the great decay of the most auncient criminall judicatorie of this kingdome, and how by injurie of tyme it had beine dispossessed of many priveledges and liberties onlie propper to it, and how the judges of the said court wer altogither wnprovydit of convenient fies to mainteine a dignitie dew to thair place; in consideratioun quhaireof, his majestie was pleased, with advyse of the estates of parliament, to grant a commissioun to a number of the honorable counsall quho, by the advyse of some lawers, micht meitt and conveine to consider of everie thing that sould be thocht expedient to restoir and reestablish the said judicatorie to the auncient dignitie and integritie in all things, bot that trew it was that the saidis lords commissioners then appointit did never meitt for the effect forsaid, soe that nothing as yett was done as had beine befor resolved. Inrespect quhaireoff, the saidis supplicants did humblie supplicat his majestie and the estates conveined in this present parliament to grant a new commissioun to such persones as his majestie and estates forsaids sould think fitt to meitt and conveine for the causses forsaids, and to report thair diligence to his majestie betuix and some certane day thaireftir, as the said supplicatioun beires. Quhilk being red in audience of his majestie and estates of parliament forsaids, and the same being hard and considerit be thame, oure soverane lord and estaits forsaids remitted and referred, lykas be thir presents they remitt and referre to the lords of his majesties most honorable privie counsall of the said kingdome of Scotland, to consult and consider of the said supplicatioun and of the contents and desyre thairof; and thaireftir, with power to the saidis lords to give anser thairto or to determine thairin as they sould think fitt and expedient.
