Right trustie and right welbeloved cosens, right reverend fatheris in God, right trustie and wilbeloved and trustie and welbeloved, we greete you all most hairtilie weele. Whairas we intend by God, his grace, this nixt yeir to come into that oure native kingdome to tak wpoun ws the crowne, and becaus of the excessive chargis whairat we haif continuallie bene since the decease of oure late deare father of famous and everlasting memorie and most still continue till the estate of the affaires of Christendome sall permitt ane abatement thairof, we haif thoght your help and assistance requisite, alsweele for payment of suche debtis as by oure said deare father wer awand in that oure kingdome as for defraying the chargis of oure coronatioun and abode in the same. And thairfore we haif procured this youre meetting, earnestlie requireing and undoubtedlie expecting that you will condiscend to suche a taxatioun, whairby not onlie all thingis may be done to the honnoure of that oure ancient kingdome, bot likewayes suche designes as we haif in hand bothe at home and abroade for the weele of oure kingdomes and people may be advanced, and this most earnestlie recommending to youre most serious consideratioun and suddeyne dipatche.
