Upon 23 October 1706
The parliament nominated a committee for examining the calculation of the equivalent
Of the nobility:
Attended well - [James Graham], marquis of Montrose, lord president of the privy council
Attended not - [John Campbell], duke of Argyll
Attended well - [John Hay], marquis of Tweeddale
Of the commissioners for shires:
Attended well - Sir Alexander [Home] Campbell of Cessnock, one of the lords of session
Attended well - George Baillie of Jerviswood
Attended well - John Haldane of Gleneagles
Of the commissioners for the burghs:
Attended well - Lieutenant Colonel John Erskine
Seldom - Robert Inglis, merchant
Seldom - Hugh Montgomery [of Busbie], merchant
The two last more against the union
The subcommittee for calculating the equivalent and for adjusting what related to the trade and customs was [Sir Alexander Home Campbell of] Cessnock, [George Baillie of] Jerviswood and [John Haldane of] Gleneagles.
Several other matters being afterward remitted to the same committee to prepare and report, an addition was made to the number on 28 November, namely:

Seldom - [George MacKenzie], earl of Cromarty
Of the commissioners for shires:
Seldom and cross, being against the union - Sir Gilbert Elliott of Minto, one of the lords of session
Seldom - Sir Thomas Burnett of Leys
Of the commissioners for burghs:
Attended well - Sir John Erskine [of Alva]
Attended well - Peter Halkett [of Pitfirrane]
The subcommittee for adjusting public debts and the coin was [John Hay, marquis of] Tweeddale, [Thomas Hamilton, earl of] Haddington, [Sir Alexander Home Campbell of] Cessnock, [Sir Gilbert Elliott of] Minto, [George Baillie of] Jerviswood, [John Haldane of] Gleneagles, Sir Peter Halkett [of Pitfirrane], Sir John Erskine [of Alva], Robert Inglis and Hugh Montgomery [of Busbie]
The committee was at much pains, acted very diligently and made several reports to the house upon what was remitted to them, but especially those of the subcommittees who did attend were at extraordinary pains.
