Minutes of the last sederunt read.
Then the following addresses were given in and read, namely: address of the merchants, deacons, trades and other inhabitants of the burgh of Ayr, subscribers of the same; address of barons, freeholders, heritors and others of the four parishes of Glenkens in the shire of Galloway, subscribing the same; and address of the magistrates, town council, burgesses and inhabitants of the burgh of New Galloway, subscribers of the same, all against a union with England in the terms of the articles.
Thereafter the act adjourning the session until 1 January next was again read, as also the clause continuing the sitting thereof from the last of February to the last day of March next inclusive inserted in the minutes of the last sederunt, and, after debate, it was put to the vote add the clause or not, and it carried add.
And the clause being added, the vote was put approve the act or not, and it carried approve.
[George Gordon], earl of Aberdeen's absence excused by his grace her majesty's high commissioner in respect of his indisposition.
Agreed that the act in favour of the burgh of Dundee for an imposition of 2d upon the pint of ale and beer to be brewed and vended within the bounds and for the uses therein mentioned be taken under consideration the first of all other private business.
Ordered that the council of trade do meet and give in their observations as to export and import and balance of trade to the committee to whom the sixth and eighth articles are remitted, and that between now and the next sederunt of the said committee.
Then the ninth article of union was read, and, after reasoning thereon, it was moved that six months' cess shall be the quota of the tax to be imposed on Scotland in place of eight months agreed to by the said article. And, after debate thereupon,
A vote was stated approve of the ninth article or not.
And thereupon a second state of a vote was offered, namely: whether six months' cess or eight months' cess should be the quota of the tax to be charged on Scotland.
Then the vote was put which of the two should be the state of the vote, first or second, and it carried first.
Whereupon it was put to the vote approve of the said ninth article or not, and it carried approve.
Thereafter the tenth, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth articles of union were all separately read and were separately voted and approved.
The fourteenth article of union read and the consideration thereof delayed until the next sederunt to be then proceeded upon prior to all other business.
Act adjourning the session to 1 January next and continuing the sitting thereof from the last of February to the last day of March next inclusive touched with the sceptre by her majesty's high commissioner in the usual manner.
The committee appointed to meet tomorrow at 9 o'clock in the usual place.
Then the lord chancellor, by order of her majesty's high commissioner, adjourned the parliament until Thursday next at 10 o'clock.
