I, Patrick, earl of Marchmont, do protest for myself and all that shall adhere to this my protestation, that the four separate protestations given in yesterday by [John Murray], duke of Atholl, [David Erskine], earl of Buchan, George Lockhart of Carnwath and Walter Stewart of Pardovan, are presumptuous, illegal and unwarrantable, calling in question what the parliament has done and impugning the authority of queen and parliament, and tending directly to raise sedition, and that their being inserted in the minutes of the proceedings of parliament shall be no stop nor hindrance to the parliament to take those protestations under consideration when they shall think fit.
