Procedure: act prohibiting importation of English commodities debated; remit to council of trade

Act prohibiting the importation of commodities from England, again read and, after reasoning, recommended to the council of trade to consider the branches of our commerce with England and other places, and to bring in what overtures shall be proper for advancing the trade of this kingdom to the next session of parliament.

Procedure: debate over act of supply and priorities

Then the parliament proceeded to consider the act of supply, which was again read and, after reasoning, it was put to the vote, grant six months' supply to her majesty extending to £432,800 for maintaining the army garrisons and frigates for one year or not, and carried grant six months' supply for the ends foresaid.

Agreed that the supply be paid at the terms following namely, two months' at Martinmas [11 November] next 1705, two months' at Candlemas [2 February] 1706 and two months' at Lammas [1 August] thereafter.

Moved that another month's supply be granted for payment of £4,800 to Mr James Anderson, writer to her majesty's signet, and £4,800 to Mr James Hodges, conforming to a vote in this session of parliament, and also for payment of £2,400 to William Bain, brother to the deceased James Bain, wright, as part of the sums due to the said James Bain by the government and for outrigging her majesty's ship the Royal William and for maintaining two birlings to be kept upon the west coast for preventing the importation of Irish victual and other prohibited goods, and the term of payment of the said month's supply to be Martinmas [11 November] 1706 and, after reasoning upon the said motion, it was put to the vote, approve or not, and carried approve.

Procedure: recommendation; supply voted and approved
Recommendation to the treasury in favour of the royal burghs, Mr James Anderson, Mr James Hodges and William Bain

Then ordered that the royal burghs outrig the frigates and two birlings with all convenience, and recommended to the lords of treasury to assign so much of the said month's supply as shall be disbursed by them for these ends. As also recommended to the lords of treasury to assign so much of the said month's supply to the above persons as will satisfy the respective sums granted to them by the parliament.

And the act of supply having received some other amendments, it was put to the vote, approve the act or not, and carried approve.
