Edinburgh, 6 July
This day the parliament met. [John Hay, marquis of Tweeddale], his grace the lord high commissioner, set out from the abbey of Holyrood House about 12 o'clock, attended by a very great train of coaches, with the greatest part of the members of the house, and the whole horse guards ([John Campbell], duke of Argyll being on their head). About 3 o'clock (the parliament being adjourned to 11 July instant), his grace proceeded from the parliament house to the abbey in the same manner as he came up, where all the members who attended were sumptuously entertained at dinner.
